Top twelve Skin Care Tips
Your skin is the largest organ in your body and because it is your protection against external influences, it is vital you take care of it. Many people neglect to taking proper care of their skin, more so men than women, but there are some very basic and sensible, easy to follow tips that will keep your skin healthy
Healthy skin is really one of the most important ingredients for beauty-enhancement and when your skin is well cared for you will not only look good but feel great as well. Consider these sensible tips and guides to young healthy looking skin
1. It is essential that you know your skin type in order to care for it properly. This is vital because not every type skin care product suits everyone. Skin care products are formulated to treat different types of skin. You may have dry, sensitive, oily, or mature skin or a combination of some of these. So make sure to purchase the right product for your skin type.
2. You should try and drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This is essential for good health and good skin. Doing so will not only help keep your skin hydrated and supple but will help in overall upkeep of your health. Remember water is the medium by which a lot of waste is eliminated from our body. It might seem a little difficult initially, but little and often is the key.
3. Cleanse your skin regularly with the right type of products that suit your skin as mentioned above. This needs to be done in the morning, starting the day fresh and again before going to bed to eliminate any accumulated grime. Our skin is exposed to pollution and harsh environmental elements each day and needs to be revitalized and rejuvenated. Using water that is too hot or too cold is harmful to your skin, always use warm water. If you do like hot baths, try to reduce the temperature gradually and add oils to help protect and nourish the skin.
4. Be gentle when taking care of your skin. Never scrub or exfoliate too hard or too often. Sometimes your skin needs a break from make up, take the time to exfoliate and deep cleanse once a week and refrain from putting make-up on.
5. Keep your skin moist and hydrated at all times. This is most important when it comes to skin care. Dryness causes the outer layer of your skin to break and flake more, and this results in chapped and rough patches. Use skin care products like moisturizers/ hydrating creams such as those that contain Aloe Vera and Shea butter. After you have bathed or showered then apply a body moisturiser also before your skin is completely dry, this helps to seal water into the skin. Facial mists are a quick and easy pick-me-up for the skin and are also very refreshing.
6. Avoid the use of harsh soaps on your face and neck, opt for a gentle facial wash devised for your specific skin type. Normal cleaning soaps should only be used from below the neck. You should choose quality skin care cleansing for the rest of your body also, such as a castile bar (olive oil bar).
7. When you are outdoors or on holidays, use a suitable sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. Most premature aging is a direct result of exposure to the sun. Sun exposure is dangerous without the use of a sunscreen and can lead to skin cancers.
8. Regular exercise and good sleep are essential, not just for skin care but for your health as a whole. Remember what appears on the surface of our skin is a direct reflection on how our body is functioning internally. Lack of sleep can lead to the formation of wrinkles and blackness below your eyes. In addition to this a lack of exercise can cause your skin to slacken and lose elasticity. Smoking also has a negative effect on the skin. Lack of sleep, lack of exercise and smoking results in low oxygen levels and inhibits normal body functions. Regular exercise and sufficient sleep are great for increasing blood oxygen levels.
9. Treat skin problems as soon as you notice any. Consult your dermatologist or doctor if you discover something out of the ordinary. Serious problems can be prevented if you catch them in time.
10. Stress of modern living has a detrimental effect on the skin. The harmful effects of stress are well known to everyone but few people realize that there are easy ways to beat stress. Simple relaxation in a warm bath, relaxing with friends and family, are just a few examples of ways to relieve stress. Good health and relaxation result in a radiant looking supple skin. Stress also leaves the body with low oxygen levels resulting in a dull complexion.
11. Always remove make-up before going to bed. Regardless how tired you may feel, this is essential. The body does most of its repair while we are sleeping, skin clogged with make-up will hinder this process. It will also lead to congested pores and comedomes (black heads).
12. Tea, coffee, smoking, stress, alcohol and many others are what is known as anti-nutrients. This simply means they inhibit the body's ability to absorb and utilise nutrients. Poor nutrition will lead to poor health and bad skin. The body requires proper nutrition, exercise and a good skin care regime in order to achieve youthful radiant looking skin.
